With the day that is in it, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to do with my makeup. Okay, I am going to come out and say something which will probably make me very unpopular but hell, I like Valentine’s Day. Yes, you think, that is easy to say when you have a boyfriend but I know plenty of people in relationships that don’t celebrate it. For me, it is a day like an anniversary where Boyfriend and I choose to do something together. We live together and while we see each other often, it is nice once in a while to make the effort to actually spend time together and appreciate each other. While obviously we always try to do that, work and life can get in the way so when there is a specific occasion like Valentine’s Day or our anniversary, there is just no getting away with it. Our plans are humble this year. When he gets home from work we are going to eat some dinner, drink some prosecco and curl up together watching a movie or something but I DID want to wear makeup to show I was making an effort. I decided I wanted to stick to some girly pinks while making the eye a little smokey and sultry.
I started by using Benefit’s Porefessional Primer to eradicate the look of pores around my nose and cheeks. I have only been using this a short while but I will have a full review up soon. This is such an overly hyped product so I picked it up to find out what all the fuss was about. I then went in with my Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup in ‘Cool Bone’ on my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I then went in with Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer under and around the eye area to really brighten it and make me look awake.
I wanted to keep the eye look simple while still smoldering so I started by using a Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Single in ‘Brule’ all over the lid from lashes to brow. This is just a matte cream colour which acts as a great base to even everything out. I then took the shade ‘Sugar’, a pearlescent white and applied this to the inner corner and a little under the brow as a highlight. I then took ‘Panther’, a matte black, on an angled brush and drew a line and flick along my upper lash line before blending it out with a Mac 217 brush. I continued to apply and blend out until I was happy with the colour density. I then did the same underneath the eye and applied Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in ‘Perversion’ to both the upper and lower water lines. I finished up with my Maybelline Volum’Express The Falsies Black Drama Mascara.
Before setting my foundation, I applied Benefit’s Lollitint to my cheeks using the supplied brush and buffing it in with my fingers. For some reason, cheek tints and I rarely get along and it eroded my foundation pretty badly. To cover the mess, I applied quite a lot of Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder on top as this has quite a bit of colour to it. I then went back over with Benefit’s Thrrrob as it is a soft pink with shimmer which I thought would be romantic and girly. I chose, instead, to use Lollitint on the lips, really building it up for some colour. The fact that this is a tint means it won’t come off if you are having a sneaky kiss – all the better on Valentine’s! I then finished by powdering my T-zone with Benefits Porefessional Agent Zero Shine.
What do you think? Does Valentine’s day dictate your makeup? Do you go for a full-on, dark, smokey eye? Or a classic red lip? Most importantly, can you get cheek tints to work for you?!
