When I first wrote about these lip products, it was an entire year ago. They had just been released and the blogging community was going crazy for them. I bought three and let my opinion join the masses of others claiming that these were THE BEST THING EVER. The funny thing about products that start a blogger craze like that is that every blogger on the planet reviews them, says they’re phenomenal and then we never hear of them again. I’m not like that. I regularly like to pick through older products of mine and remember why I fell in love with them in the first place. In the past year, my love for the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers has not waned and I guess that is obvious because my stash has doubled in number.
Here is a recap of the colours I had before and the newer additions to my collection;
This is a gorgeous dark pink-mauve that is really unusual and stands out from everything else in my lipstick collection. It photographed a little lighter than it is in the flesh but is perfect if you are a little scared of attempting a berry lip. The purple tone is what makes it unique and while it doesn’t look out of place during the day with a light eye, it could make a look really stand out at night time teamed with some really black smokey eyeshadow. Despite not looking like a standout in the tube, this is one of my favourites and top recommendations.
This is a gorgeous fuschia and very much a ‘me’ shade. It is bright and fun and summery and the one I had my eye on first out of the whole bunch. This is not blue-based but rather more red-leaning and interestingly, as you wear it, it sort of deepens and looks a lot more red by the end of the day.
This is a true red and an absolute stunner at that. The high shine finish makes it stand out from all the rest of the normal red lipsticks I own. This was definitely one of the favourites when the Apocalips were first released and it’s easy to see why.
This is a pale peach and my least favourite of the bunch. I have seen this heralded as many people’s favourite but on my skin tone, I am not a fan. It leans a little yellow or something and makes me look a little ill. I definitely think this is better suited to someone not quite so ghostly.
This is a beautiful hot coral-red. I have not seen another shade like this before – it practically POPS right off the lips. For me, this is definitely one to wear with a pared back eye look to allow this to do all the talking. Wear sunglasses, this one is BRIGHT.
This is a perfect peachy nude that suits my skin tone so well. Being pale, it can be a pain to find a nude that doesn’t make you look washed out or dead but this has just enough of a peach tone to work beautifully. The glossy finish also helps in making you look alive. One of my favourite nudes that I own!
The lipgloss-alike tube comes with a doe-foot applicator that features this interesting well which collects product so you don’t have to redip into the tube too many times. I find application with this a dream and the product glides on so easily.
All of the lacquers have a gorgeous high-shine finish that really makes them stand out and their pigmentation is incredible too. Be weary not to apply too much product or it can get messy really fast but other than that, I have no complaints whatsoever. I am obviously a fan as I have bought so many! They last quite well considering the nature of the product, are non-drying, comfortable to wear and reapply easily too. I love these!
There are two of the original lineup that I don’t own as well as five newer shades on the Boots website that I will definitely be keeping my eye open for. They retail for €7.95 and I think they are well worth it.
What do you think? Are you still using your Rimmel Apocalips? Or are you still yet to jump on the bandwagon?
