Friday Face: 3rd January 2014

Here is my first face of 2014 (and how strange is it to write that date?!) although I am actually cheating as this was my Christmas day face. I really wanted to use some new Illamasqua products that I received the day before, yes, on Christmas Eve. I need to tell you this little story as I am SO impressed with the service.

Basically, if you are registered on the Illamasqua website, they send you an email the evening before your birthday with a 15% off code as a little birthday gift. Cute, right? AND it applies along WITH your professional discount if you have one so I obviously HAD to order some things. So on the eve of my birthday (the 20th, my birthday was the 21st) and quite late at night, I placed my order. I received my email telling me it had been dispatched on the 23rd so I, knowing it was Christmas, expected not to receive it for about another week. Now, I always order using Parcel Motel as that way you can get free UK shipping and only pay the €3.50 Parcel Motel fee which saves so much money as I find the Illamasqua shipping fees to be outrageous. Before Parcel Motel, I would often fill my basket and then balk at the final price including shipping, deciding not to order. At nine am on Christmas Eve, I got a text to say that my parcel would be arriving. This actually meant that DPD delivery were at the Parcel Motel address in Northern Ireland. I was impressed that they were delivering on Christmas Eve but again, with it being Christmas, expected Parcel Motel to take a few days to deliver it. At 3.30pm on Christmas Eve, I got a text from Parcel Motel to let me know my parcel was in my local box. I never expected my order to arrive before Christmas, let alone on Christmas Eve. I was overjoyed at my early gift to myself but even more excited about the service!

Now back to my face…

I began, as usual, with my Revlon Colorstay Foundation buffed in with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and some Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer where necessary. I then combed through my brows with a spoolie before applying my NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder in Black/Grey with a Mac 266 Angled Brush. I then used an Inglot 6SS Buffing Brush to push my Catrice All Matt Plus Shine Control Powder into my skin.

I had treated myself to the Illamasqua Complement Palette – a quad made up of three powder eyeshadows and one liquid metal. I began by taking the Liquid Metal in ‘Focus’, a cool metallic brown, and buffing it all over the lid as a base. Liquid Metals are unusual as they are kind of like cream shadows only they never set  – which isn’t very functional – but they are stunning all the same. I then took ‘Forgiveness’, a rich chocolate plum, through the crease to buff out the edges and create some dimension. I used ‘Slink’, a soft champagne shimmer, under the brows as a highlight and used ‘Queen of the Night’, a blackened plum in the very outer corners for depth and a touch of smokiness. I also applied that underneath the eyes. For the piece de resistance, I used my new Pure Pigment in ‘Fervent’, a reddish brown with blue, green and silver reflects, all over the lid, avoiding the crease and very outer corners so as not to hide the eyeshadows. I lined my upper and lower waterline with my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in ‘Perversion’, lined my upper lashline with my Maybelline Gel Liner, applied some Diego Dalla Palma Mascaragogo and added Ardell Demi Wispie lashes.

I contoured my face with my Sleek Face Contour Kit and added some Catrice Multicolour Blush in ’01 Gone With The Wind’, a gorgeous peachy-coral which really lifts the fact. I didn’t want to take away from the eyes so opted for an Essence Stay Matt Lip Cream in ‘Velvet Rose’ on the lips.

What do you think? Are you as in-love with the Illamasqua products as me? What was your Christmas Day makeup like?
