I received this lipstick months and months ago at the DreamTone Event and despite wearing it many times since then, I continuously forgot to photograph it on my lips. Although you can see a photo of me in it at the Ben & Jerry EngageMint Party here. This was my very first foray into Lancome makeup but my great experience means I will definitely be checking out more from them.
Let’s begin with the packaging. A sturdy black tube with a stunning curved detail on top which makes it stand out from all others in my collection. The gold logo sits right on the curve and it clicks closed very satisfyingly and securely. I wouldn’t worry about throwing this one in my bag in the least and have done just that on many occasions.
The shade I received was ‘132 Caprice’, although it is probably worth noting that nowhere on the box or tube itself does it say the name, merely the number. It was the Lancome website which has taught me that this does, in fact, have a name. The colour is a beautiful, vibrant true red and I am obsessed with how it looks against my pale skin. It is old Hollywood meets Snow White. While the colour is bold, it looks just right and not in the least garish. This has to be one of the most beautiful reds that I own.
Lancome describe their L’Absolu Rouge lipsticks as containing their unique replenishing molecule, Pro-Xylane, making it a pampering lip colour which creates visibly fuller and smoother lips. While this sounds like a load of advertising crap, I will admit that this lipstick absolutely glides over the lips and does not in any way tug or grab. It never highlights any lip imperfections, dryness or dead skin and it feels beautiful on. The colour is opaque in one swipe and there is a scent to it – like an old, powdery makeup smell that, for whatever reason, I love! My lips definitely do feel hydrated when I wear this and even after reapplying throughout the day, my lips never look worse for wear. Wear time itself is great with it only fading slightly after eating and drinking but otherwise, remaining perfectly in tact. It contains SPF12 which is always a bonus.
In all, I adore this lipstick. The shade is absolutely perfect although if reds aren’t your thing, there are thirty other colours to choose from. It is hydrating, longwearing and makes my lips look and feel wonderful. At €26, these are definitely not the cheapest in the world but if you are looking to treat yourself, this is well worth it.
What do you think? Have you tried any makeup from Lancome? Are you a fan of the L’Absolu Rouge?
