Orla Kiely Geranium Shower Gel

Orla Kiely Geranium Shower Gel
Irish fashion designer, Orla Kiely, may have a very successful career with her clothing line stocked in Arnotts and Kilkenny (the shop, not the county) and celebrity fans including Kate Middleton but the name means absolutely nothing to me until I see that very seventies looking print that she is so famous for. Recently she branched out from fashion, accessories and home (Honestly, you can get ANYTHING with that stem pattern on it) and launched the Orla Kiely Geranium collection for bath and body. I received this shower gel and a hand cream from the collection at the Wizard Publicity Event I attended earlier in the year but it has taken me until now to even open them. The reason is in the name. This is geranium scented and that is just not my cup of tea. I am not a fan of overly floral scents and when writing up this review I made a typo, accidentally calling it ‘flower gel’ which, well, it is!

Orla Kiely Geranium Shower Gel
It is a clear yellow-y gel that lathers well and has a really strong scent to it. It is worth noting that it is free from parabens, sulphates, petrochemicals and artificial colourings.

It contains a blend of essential oils including geranium, eucalyptus and clary sage. I am not entirely sure what a geranium smells like but when you read the list of those ingredients, you can imagine that this is quite a strong and overpowering scent. One I don’t favour. It also features marshmallow extract and pro-vitamin B5 to help soothe and soften skin. After using this in the shower my skin did feel hydrated, not at all dry or tight like it can be prone to but also not overly moisturised, soft or supple either. Just normal, if that makes sense.

In all, I wouldn’t repurchase this simply because I am not a fan of the scent although for €15 for a 250ml bottle, it would have to be some crazy incredible scent to make me buy it! If you do fancy it, you’ll find it in Meadows and Byrne.

What do you think? Would you fork out that much for designer shower gel? Or do you leave the body products to the skin experts?
